I have been working as a speech therapist in an independent practice for over 30 years and I still cycle to and from work with a good mood. I feel at home in a practice. It is personal and small-scale and there is a lot of direct contact with colleagues and clients.
I have found stuttering to be the most interesting subject since my Speech Therapy training in Utrecht. I was working on questions such as: ‘How is it possible that you stutter, why is everyone’s stuttering so different and what can you do about it?’ As a speech therapist, I have enjoyed treating many speech and language disorders and also stuttering. In 2014, the opportunity arose to deepen and specialize in stuttering and I decided to train as a stuttering therapist at the NVST (Dutch Association for Stuttering Therapists).
I enjoy working with children and young adults whose stuttering is associated with a developmental disorder, autism, Down syndrome or AD(H)D. I base my approach on someone’s possibilities, opportunities and challenges. In addition, I consider myself fortunate to have such wonderful colleagues, all four of whom are very supportive of stuttering. Our team has a lot of knowledge and experience in the field of stuttering and everyone has their own contribution, which is very inspiring for me!
I have been playing the flute from an early age in various ensembles and orchestras. I also like to exercise outdoors in my spare time and find relaxation in being with friends and family.
