Caroline Nater-Berkeljon

After finishing High School I studied Speech and Language Therapist in Hoensbroek. During this study I became very pre-occupied with stuttering and language development problems. After my graduation for Speech and Hearing Therapist I studied Speech and Language Pathologist at the University of Nijmegen. During this study I choose two major subjects: stuttering and language development problems. My final academic research for graduation I did with Pascal van Lieshout, Herman Peeters and Peter Alfonso. We studied the differences in timing and coördiantion during the realization of bilabials sounds in the fluent speech of people who stutter and who do not stutter.
I realized the combination of clinical and academic work is essential to me.
After graduation I started my one practice where other kinds of specialists have joined me. After 25 years the practice became a specialized centre for stuttering therapy and language (development) problems in collaboration with many different specialists.
Besides clinical work I also do academic work: teaching, lecturing, courses, supervision – intervision – coaching, and some scientific studies. The last study I did was with prof Eveline Crone in a fundamental study on the working of a specific part of the brain by youngster who stutter and who do not stutter.
I am also member of the commission SEB of the NVLF.
